Well, here is my review of the Japanese resteraunt attached to the hotel. Its a bit raw, I have not edited it. I just wrote it out on my Blackberry and sent it to my gmail account. It was a good dinner, just a little odd. I thought you might like it. Oh and I had Chinese food today for lunch, man it was good stuff. I am sitting on the 8th floor in the Nike office in downtown Shanghai. The others from Nike are starting to come in so we will swamp the hotel pretty soon I am sure.

Lunch: Chopped chicken and vegetables that you stuff into a light pastry with sesame seeds (the guy I went with said it was a Chinese hamburger. I laughed my butt off at the one. :-)
Chinese steak in some sort of a chinese bbq sauce. Pretty good, very tender. Oh and it has knife beans with it. You would like those (a cross between asparigus and beans, good stuff).
Dim Sum = Shanghai Dumplings. Good stuff, pork and a light soup inside it. Making my mouth water right now. You had to bite it and drink the soup out of it before eating it. Very good.
Fried bean curds, ok sounds icky, but it was good. He told me it was vegetarian fried chicken. lol

Oh and I had a sprite too. A drink that tasted the same, whoohoo! Ok a good lunch. Much better than my dinner last night.

Dinner on Sunday night:

Green tea here does NOT = green tea at home.
It has a different taste to it. It is indeed like the stuff in uwijamia (Asian supermarket).
Kind of earthy almost a toasted rice flavor.

Things I have never had before. Like what resembled a kind of translucent watery potato. Vegetables that were made of all sorts of different things. I definetly found a squash variant but one thing was like a small zuchini but a different taste. Oh and this fish cake of sorts. Not too sure what it was but it was good.

A radish that was mush that was cold that came with the tempura. I put that in the dipping broth (not a sauce but more of a broth) as suggested and swished it around and it thickened it up and gave it a bit of spice. Came with a shrimp too but that was much more mushy that I am used to. Still tasted good though.

Now a vinegar dish. Very thin sea weed she says. We'll see. ... Very good. Its the txture and firmness of cooked rice noodles. Tangy. It uses a vinegar but its sweet too. Tastes a little like pickled ginger the sauce it is in. Its in a little bowl (like a small teacup).

Sashimi was very good. I tell ya though having the shrimp you are about to eat looking at you (the head is still on along with the eyes and stuff) is a little odd.

The sushi is very good (duh). However the miso tastes funny. Maybe I am used to the american style but... Its almost bitter with a slightly burnt taste? I dunno. Oh and the soy sauce is sweet with almost a bbq flavor to it. Odd.

Miso also came last. Then came the green tea. Its definetly backwards from how we do it. How very odd.

Ok so one more. Dessert is a assortment of fruit. Strawberry pineapple orange slices and 2 small almost grapes. They are about the same size but have a verry tough skin almost avacado tough they are light od green and they have a seed or pit or something like that. Very interesting. I had one not the other. Tasted ok but can't get past the skin. I asked and the name of these is dragon fruit or dragon's eye fruit. One or the other.

Lessons learned.
Eat what you know last. Just in case you run into a taste you don't like and don't want it to be the last one in your mouth.

Just because they speak a little english doesn't mean that they can tell you what they are serving you.

I like English tea (black tea) more than green tea. I will try jasmin tea next.

So I was "working" and came across this. Pretty cool.

Its a 1984 ranger, but what is special is that it has a 2.4l turbo diesel in it. How cool is that. It has a 4 speec manual too. I'd roll that. Good shit.

Who knew they made these things?

So, I found a car that I want. It even is a 4 cylinder. It drives sweet and stops and turns on a dime. And its AWD. Fucking badass. I even fit in it.

Subaru Impreza 2.5RS

35k miles
Nice rims and tires on it too.

Only problem, they won't give it to me for free and the stereo seriously sucks ass. I could fix that though.

So when we were having our "talk" there was a burn that I thought was pretty damn good and had to pass it along.

Tina: "Your friends are gonna hate me."

Me: "They don't like you much now"

muwhahahaaaa, I thought that was pretty good. It looked like it stung her pretty good. later.

Well it happened. Last night Tina and I spoke about the latest troubles that we have been having and it came to a head that we are done. This marriage is done. The long and short of it is that we are pretty much finished and have been for a while. She will be getting out of the house in about a year once we have had time to work on some of our debts. Once we pay them down and get them worked out where life will be less expensive then she will go. She wil pay me about 50% of her paycheck (done via direct deposit so there can be no quibbling) per week. I suggested that to be fair. If she is sick then I don't want her to have no money, and on the flip side I want an increase when she gets raises. Selfish I know, but what the hell. She will not be taking much from here, only what I let her. Definetly not the seachest, and not the comforter that my Mom made as a gift for our wedding. But that means one of the TV's (not like I watch a whole bunch anyway) and some kitchen stuff. She'l have to fend for the other stuff on her own. She will take the kids on alternating weekends, but they will live with me and I will be in charge of them. (that was stated plainly so there can be no guessing). Ok so I knew this was a long time in coming and knew it would eventually happen. Just doesn't make it any easier. I'll be ok, but its going to be an odd year. On the flip side we agreed that I need a new car with fewer then 8 cylinders. I am thinking still of a Subaru Impreza 2.5RS. Mmmmm, yeah I think I'd like that. Oh well. Shit happens. Man, I have no idea how to start again. I like companionship of the female sort. I have been with the same person for 10 years. Starting over is going to be very very hard. Of course that means that I have to lose more weight to get better looking in the next year to get ready for it. Ok, enough incoherent rambling, time to go work on the taxes.

So, we got snow today. Tina woke me up at 4am to show me that it had snowed about 2 inches. It didn't stick, but it was enough to enjoy and let the kids play in for a few minutes before the morning drive. Snapped some pictures of it all, not up to the quality of some shutterbugs that I know but I can remember the moment anyway with them. The Bronco of course really did NOT want to start. That beast is soooo cold blooded. Jared lost his shoe and came running up to me to tell me, instead of staying where he was and putting it back on. Oh well, he's three. Lots of fun to be had. Of course this is before I caught James trying to sneak in his gameboy to school in his backback. Arrrgh. So, what now, do I ebay it of just take it away. Thoughts thoughts.

Wahoo! Today I got some stuff ready for the boomershoot...

Ordered the ammo for the .308. I got 5 boxes of 168gr Match HP and 5 boxes of 175 gr hatch HP. We'll see which works better. I also ordered 1000 rounds of 223 for the AR for the fun at the end of the shoot. Now I just need more magazines. Ok, the rest of the list I have to bring is as follows:

Sig
Shooting bench
Cooler (small or medium enough for drinks and snacks during the working day while mixing)
308 and AR (kind of a given ya know?)
Ammo (its on its way!)
Clothes (for all days including something casual for the dinner)
Pillow
Computer (only one this time)
2 folding chairs
Canopy
Tools
Jumper cables
Tow strap
Gun cleaning supplies

You know, if we're not brining Colin, then we can fold the rear seat down and have plenty of rom even with the tire inside. Gotta figure that one out before we leave and get it nailed down.

Stuff to possibly buy includes:
Rifle case for the AR so I don't have to break it down every time
AR Magazines (I needed more than I had so I don't have to reload every time I shoot. )
Extra cargo carrier for the reciever hitch.

Oh and I might even try ti fix the hesitation problem before I go too. Who knows. Any thoughts or other stuff to add to the list I am forgetting?

Oh Talked to Patrick Harrison today and told him where Ben went for the last year. He was amazed and a little jealous I think.

Yo.

Ok, so who knew this would turn into a bronco Diary, but heh, I guess it is anyway. So, last time I cleaned the underside, it looked alot better, so I went ahead and fixed the oil leak. Really bad coming out of the oil pressure sensor (mechanic didn't use any teflon tape, yay). So, fixed that, and took out the redundant mechanical gague. That's all better, so I took it back to Leonard, and he welded in my new stabilizer bracket, and then he also welded some parts of the frame and suspension. That has helped greatly with the steering wandering problem. It almost drives like a normal truck with no sway bars now. ANyway, after that, the BIG new is after, on my lunch today, I decided on a lark to go and run it through DEQ. Now, lets preface this by saying the last time this happened, the engine was new, as was all the exhaust, and components, and it took 3 weeks to get it to go through not to mention several hundred dollars for labor involved in the mechanic, doing things like tuning and rejetting the carb several times, and other etc sutff. So, I just wanted to see where I was at, and I was thinking it would not pass at all. I had other options like fuel injection that I was considering to get it through, but that would be like $1200, just not do-able this year, no matter how much I tried to get more cash (Hawii and the boomershoot are going to take the most of my cash this year). Anyway, I went through, for a freebie as they will let you do, and lo and behold it passed. Did just fine. I mean hell I didn't even hook back up the EGR valve. None of that shit was hooked up. All he did was look under the rig for a catalytic converter (yes I have one). So, I am stoked as all hell. Damn near dancing. So, I am thinking well this is awesome, but I have to do it again when september rolls around and I need to get my tags. I mention this and he says "nope" evidently, the inspection is good for 6 months. Pretty badass. So, that is taken care of and all good. I can't wait to get it done. I think the reason that I passed is that they passed a law that went into effect the beginning of this year that says that my year of Bronco is ok to do the basic emissions test and not on the Dyno. So, that combined with the stuff I have done to it this year (like fixing the severe overheating problem) all added up. Man, that made my day. Of course, it was pretty cool, talking to the guy, he is a 4x4 owner as well. We talked about Brown's camp and the fact that it is STILL closed to the public. This is not good. Evidently they are repairing alot of stuff inside and they might be looking for volunteers. I'm going to do that if I get the chance and they can use me. So, we'll see. That's about it for now. I'm still looking foreward to going to the boomershoot, I can't wait. I need to get out and practice though. That has been a long time in coming. I should probably head to Flying "M" for that though for the longer range. Is this like the longest paragraph ever or what? Oh well. Later.

Heh, so Stan D. here at work brought in this Torx15 screwdriver that is 18 inches long today so I can now open up my Mac SE and see what is inside it and blow it out and possibly upgrade it. Wahoo! I think I'll bring in my other two to do tomorrow and see what is in them. Can we say 30 pin simms? I thought you could.

Oh yeah I also powerwashed the underside of the Bronco this weekend. Looks better, but I have to fix those leaks so it doesn't get bad again.

Lets see here. Time for an update. WHeee. So, last night I went out to pick up my free macs from some dude in Hillsboro. He had a bunch of mac stuff that he wanted to get rid of. Soooo, I stopped by and picked up a pretty awesome score. I got the following:

Macintosh SE (floppy, 1Mb of RAM, 7 Mb hdd, heyboard, mouse) works great, games and all.
Macintosh Plus (floppy, and that's it, well came with KB and mouse too, untested at this point)
2 printers
Miscellaneous harddrives and parts and some extra software too.

Good stuff. I brought it into work today, lets see em give me shit about a computer that is over 10 years old.

Went home on my lunch today and picked up the volvo as well as Ben's mail. Figured it was about time to drive this thing. No heat makes it a pain in the ass, but it was a cool, clear day today, so no worries. Might take a look at it this weekend. Ken suggested when I called him that I put some penetrating oil on the fan shafts where they go into the motor to see if it could be freed. Not sure I wanna try that, fear of a fire foremost in my mind. It drove ok. The smell of gas is almost completely gone, being replaced by that old volvo smell. I'd know it anywhere. Drove ok, all the way out to get Ben's mail and back. I got to the Nike parking lot and pulled in and the car sputtered and died. I checked the fuel, still good, then hit the key again, it turned over fine, but would not start. I opened the hood and found a loose connection near the battery crimped it better with my leatherman, and plugged it in and it was good to go. Lets hope that is the end of that problem. Costing into the Nike parking lot is not fun in any way. Got some stuff (mail), details in an email later on.

Bronco has been doing very well. I fixed most of the wandering steering problem, so that's a good thing. Drove to James' first Boy Scouts meeting this past monday. Took CHristine and her two kids because they were having more car trouble (I say more because 2 weekends ago, they had their anniversary and their car died on them downtown and I had to tow them all the way back to Aloha. That was fun). Anyway, 5 people in the rig is more than I have had before, but three kids fit well into the back. Of course we were also listening to my freshly installed stereo. I tell you what, tunes are a good thing, I didn't think I would miss them, but I did.

Work is still work. These people expect miracles, but continually give us crap raises no matter what we do or how well we do it. I do at times hate this company. Oh well, its work. And I do like 3 weeks of vacation a year. I am on MH2 and mostly not the IMAC coordinator anymore.

James is doing well. He is finding some fire in himself, he kicked someone the other day because they were accusing him of stealing something. Got caught at it too. Oh well. Oh and while he was at a friends house spending the night, they were caught searching for "Hooters". This turned out to be James' idea, but he swears he was looking for the menu. Uh huh. I don't believe that at all. He is still doing ok in school. Baseball is starting soon. I plan on practicing with him this weekend at my parents house, or maybe at the school if its raining. I can't wait, its always been fun to do. Reedville is a good orginization. He's now a Boy Scout. He will cross over when one of our scout dad's returns from Iraq. But while waiting he and the other boys from our group (from Tigers all the way up) are all there and can get started with the merit badges and other stuff. They do a bunch of camping and hiking and family stuff and skiing too. Quite the group. Man they are busy. In a few weeks they will be having a automotive campout. THey will stay at the scout leaders house in his barn and learn many things about cars. Maintenance mostly, oil, diffs, transfer case, plugs wires, tune-up, etc.

Jared. My favorite basket case. Double ear infrections, amoxicillin (makes him crazy I swear). He still runs to me yelling daddy daddy daddy at day care. I like that. He also still likes to sit in my lap while I play WoW and watch "bad guys" as he calls it. He's doing really well with the potty training thing. I can't wait for that to be done. That boy has no problem getting in the middle of things and saying what he thinks about what you are doing. I was yelling at James for not doing his homework and trying to be sneaky and make it so I wouldn't find out (this isn't the first time on that one) and Jared walks up and started asking me what James did and then telling me not to yell at him. Kind of takes me aback when he does. No fear I guess. Strange kids. They must get it from their mother.

Lets see. Me. Hmmm. Uh, still playing WoW. I am still planning for the boomershoot. I have to figure out how and what I am going to fit into the Tahoe. I think I will move the tire to the roof and strap it down and then I should have plenty of room inside to put what I want to in there. The biggest I worry about is the awning or canopyor whatever you call it. Its the largest and heaviest thing I have to take. Of course that and the rifles and all the other crap I have to take with me. Well, I don't HAVE to technically, but it sure is nice to have when its sunny out for shade or moreover for when it rains if it does. ANyway, that's about it. Guess I better get back to work.

Man is it cold here. Frost every morning, and no rain for a while, so the clouds are gone and the temps are getting and staying down low, even during the days. Went up to Brown's camp this weekend with the idea of a little 4 wheeling and some shooting. I took the kids, tina and Josh K. but when we got there, a gate was down and we couldn't get into the camp area. Soooo, after some deliberation, we turned around and went down powerline access trail. Now, I have been down there before in the Tahoe, so the Bronco takes it no problem, however, the issue comes in with the other driver. Yeah, Tina was driving the Tahoe. The kids were with me in the Bronco, and Josh is with her. Well, I turn down it and notice some hesitation from the other vehicle. So I throw it in reverse, and back up (sliding everywhere, keep in mind, there's a bunch of snow and ice) and ask what's up. Tina is looking at the trail, and says, I'm going to go ahead and let Josh drive. Funny thing is when she says this, both Josh and I say "No, you need to learn it, you drive". She did just fine with it. It was alot of fun. We got to a gravel pit and hung out for a bit, letting James and Jared run around in the snow and throw snowballs. A good time was had by all. A red suburban showed up a little while later (with a huge knock in the engine, turns out he has no idea why its doing it and has had it apart several times) and out jumps one of James' friends from school. So, they proceed to play, and they brought sleds and all, and James takes one and slides down this huge gravel pile that was covered in snow, and jumps it at the end, then goes over a big log and flips. He stands up at the end, yelling "whoohoo!" and wants to do it again. Got the camera the second time and got it on tape, I will post the movie sometime soon so everyone can see my older son with the death wish. About this time Jared starts to shiver (denying the entire time that he is cold and wants to play more) so I pick him up and put him inside my parka with me and zip it up (its a little large, big enough to fit over both of us and then zip it up). He didn't complain about it a bit. He went down for his nap in the Bronco a bit after that. Buckled into his car seat and with a parka and 2 blankets and a running car to keep him warm. James went with him, and with the kids napping with their ear protection on, we went ahead and did some target practice. Just pistols. I found a bunch of ammo before we went, AFTER I bought a bunch more, so we're good to go. And of course as we were winding down, the sheriff pulls up in his truck with his quad in it and asks us to find a better spot to shoot at. Evidently there is a ATV trail somewhere behind our (RATHER HUGE) backstop that we were shooting at. So, we stopped and headed home, after a bit more running around (never did find the trail I wanted to go on. I need a map pretty badly for that area). In hind sight, I think I am going to have to just break down and pay my membership to the tri-county gun club. THey are the best in the area, closer, and I would like a comfortable place to shoot the .308 and the sig and such. some day. Merry Christmas. To all. Even my bah-humbug brother in Thailand. ;-)

Oct. 30th, 2005 @ 09:53 pm POKER RUN
Current Mood: happy
Current Music: White noise of my PC and peace and quiet
Ohhhh man! I had a blast on the poker run put on by flat broke and 4-wheelin. I was almost the largest rig there, yet I still went on some of the hardest trails. Talk about some kickass rides. Man I had soooo much fun. I can't say enough to let you know how much fun it was. It had everything from mud (just a little) to harrowing descents down very rocky trails. The only problem that I had on the trail was from the cooling system. I first noticed it at one of the checkpoints. I was starting to heat up a bit. Kind of worrying, but nothing too much to worry about I thought, just keep an eye on it. Ok, so we kept going, I got to the next trailhead (a mile or so down another trail) and I was swinging past the 300 degree mark (the last one on my gague). So, I called out on the radio for us to stop and let me cool down. We did and just as soon as we did I saw the radiator start to go. It let off the pressure the way it was supposed to, and after it was done, I started to look over things. Chris noticed that when I shut down the fans were off, I checked the fuse first thing. Sure enough it had not blown, but part of the plastic holder had melted and caused the connection to fail. I pushed it back in and made sure it was seated and then turned on the ignition. The fans were now working! YAY!! Ok, then I let it sit with the fans on and it not running, once they shut off on their own I started it back up and watched the temp needle. Sure enough, it dropped rapidly. And after that it was just fine. Oh, and I packed lots of extra stuff, among it was a gallon of antifreeze and a gallon of water. So I topped it off for good measure. Man did I ever had fun.

Before I went on the run I packed the back with things that I thought I would need. Among that is listed here, keep in mind, all of this stuff had to be packed in and strapped down to make sure it would not move.  Even in the unlikely event of a roll over.  It was really and totally secure, even down to the cooler.
  • Drivelines (common thing to break on the trail) both rebuilt and ready to install (new u-joints and all)
  • New Warn Premium hubs
  • 6 qts of oil
  • 2 gallons of water / anti-freeze
  • repair manual
  • highlift jack
  • star wrench
  • All tools (even special ones that I would need for the hub replacement)
  • fire extinguisher (right next to the drivers door by the drivers seat)
  • CB (mounted in the place of the ash tray / cigarette lighter)
  • Mag light (mounted to the rear of the center console)
  • shop towels
  • Rear storage compartment with adjustable mounting rails
  • Survival kit (first aid, axe, MRE's, knife, etc.)
  • The Sig (of course)
  • Cooler with lunch in it (drinks too, mmmm, lemonade)
I'm sure there was more.  I'm just proud and happy that I got it all done and taken care of and it got me there and back safely and happily (I was a bouncey little kid when I was done and while I was doing it too).

Oct. 24th, 2005 @ 09:13 am Bronco workings!
Well, yesterday I finished most of the projects on the Bronco. Got the following done over the past few weeks:
-Wireless winch remote installed
-In-Dash winch controls wired in
-Side trail lights
-Rear lights
-Removed ash tray and put the CB and amp in there using the existing wiring to run it
-Full switches to run lights (lit switches 3 of them, so I have an extra)
-Installed storage box into the new mounts, much more secure and stronger as well. I want it to stay put while on the trail
-Roll bar installed
-New hardware for the top, it stays put and no longer squeaks anymore going down the road.
-New power window switch for the rear window (inside the cab control)
-Lockers and new gears both front and rear put in and broke in and changed out the fluid (all work done @ leonard's)
-New mount for the the baby's seat in the rear. Alot more secure and stable.
-Fire extinguisher
-Wilson Silverload Antenna installed
-MagLight mount installed
-Rocker panel covers (where you step in, I made these with robber coating so it will be easier to get in and out of).
-Fixed drivers side interior panel
-Installed Tach
-Run secondary wiring harness under dash and setup its use for switches and tach.

Its been a busy few weeks, but with the run coming (I'm a bit excited, can you tell?) I am glad its done. I am taking this Friday off to get final stuff done. I can't wait.
